I'm old enough to remember him when he played for West Ham.




BBC have a clip on their news item from the documentary they made in 1981 on the troubles at Manchester City back then. I even remembered some aspects of the sequence they are showing - even though it's over 30 years since I last saw it.

Came in as manager for Swansea when we were on the massive decline, he stopped us going down to the old fourth division, which prevented a season by season drop from the top to the bottom. He sent letters to every club begging for players, a far cry from today. We needed a point from the last game with Bristol City and it finished 0-0, with John Bond going into the crowd at the final whistle with a very large cigar bow
