Just how good are prem teams these days.
Discussion
I watch a fair bit of footy. The way the premier league is marketed (hyped) really is something leaving you to Beleive we are seeing the absolute highest quality of sport.
I can't help feeling its not as good as some would have us Beleive. The Arsenal team that did the double, the Utd team that did the Treble, the Chelsea team that first won the title, the Arsenal invincible s, even a Newcastle team with Ginola and Cole. Would these teams be better than current day. I know it's only an opinion but I look back at Beckham, Cantona, Bergkamp, Zola, schmeichel, Kanchelskis, Ronaldo and think are today's crop as good. How can Giggs play at his age still at the highest level if that level hasn't dropped.

All the major teams are in a state of flux....I don't think any of them could hold a candle to the best sides that Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea produced in the last ten years.
Man City and Chelsea are victims their own worst victims in terms of a lack of consistency with management and/or constant renewal of squads. I think Man City will turn that round but the rest of this season is key for Chelsea as if Mourinho doesn't work out I just don't see which top class manager will go there. Mourinho's appointment was a marriage of convenience after Guardiola et al said no.
Man U and Arsenal are potentially looking the best....Moyes is a steady hand and they have the financial firepower to add to their squad. Wenger now has the financial clout to compete with almost everyone now but need a year or so to get the squad where it needs to be.
Liverpool- Rogers might just be what they need but it's a massive season for him. They need to finish Top 4 or be there right at the death.
Spurs - Spent a lot of money early signs are good but I think AVB is unproven. His man management at Chelsea was appalling when trying to transition that team. Whether that was entirely him or partly Abramovich who knows. I think he's capable of properly losing the plot. Spurs without a phenominal season with Bale were an ordinary team which is what they looked when Bale wasn't performing.

Hardly an impartial observation is it?
I do like how you state AVB's was appalling as a certain fact then day in the next breath was it Abramovich? Who knows?
Well not you, that's for sure! Some goons...

I don't see you disagreeing with my view on Chelsea.

You mean AVB's man management presumably?
He was sent in with a brief to clear out the old guard & when it went predictably wrong, Abramovich got cold feet. This is known fact. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas which is about all anyone needs to know on that subject.

No about Mourinho's appointment being a marriage of conveniance. He was sent in with a brief to clear out the old guard & when it went predictably wrong, Abramovich got cold feet. This is known fact. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas which is about all anyone needs to know on that subject.

Turkey's don't vote for Christmas....however when you need the Turkey's to stick around for a couple more years til it's their Christmas you need to work with them. That's where he f
ked up. Zero man management skills. Clearly you'll say "how the hell do I know that"....all I can say is I have heard it from one of the players directly. You can see with the Adebayor training with the reserves and Defoe complaining about it that things aren't good already.

d AVB giving Adebayor time off to mourn the loss of his brother!Justin Cyder said:
Oh now you're just having a laugh! Unattributed quotes 'direct from players' singling out two out of favour strikers as proof that Spurs are about to implode.
Take a bow Jim White!!
Go back in the Chelsea thread to the day Essien first injured his knee a couple of years ago or when that taped phone call of John Terry was released after the Ferdinand incident. You'll find that I told people Essien was injured before it was on any news wires/twitter etc. Chelsea fans didn't believe that at first either. Take a bow Jim White!!

I'm not fussed if you're Robbie Savage. But your entire schtick is I'm in the know & my connectons all say Spurs are s
t!It's like arguing with a flat earther. You just stick your fingers in your ears & insist & all based on your own loyalties. I need grown ups to reason with...
So a'hm ooot.
I think like most sports standards keep on improving......and just going back 20 years I think the skill and fitness level has leapt............I'd like to think Evertons class of 85 would be world beaters today but I feel they'd get battered by the current Everton team who will be simply hoping for a top 6 slot this season at best I fear.
Only thing that bucks the trend IMHO is heavyweight boxing............I could name 20 guys from the 70's,80's and 90's who'd be undisputed champs if around now.
Alas it can never be proven............but one thing could be.
I get p1ssed off watching international football matches and the commentator will tell you with an air of authority it is the pinnacle of the game, and a damn site quicker than the prem.
I'd like to see England get pitched against the Stokes,Hulls,Sotons of this world for their "friendly" games instead of mucking about against 3rd rate International teams.........I reckon it'd be an eye opener.
