The cry goes up EVERY SEASON as some player or other vows to move on and the threats are put about, the press get on it too saying this kind of nonsense.

But it doesn't happen.

It never does and it never will.

Wouldn't it be great if a club owner actually had the guts and financial muscle to do this.

To my mind it's the only way to resolve the sort of nonsense we see with Sterling and such like.

What do others think?

The difficulty is money talks. Often the player might try and force the clubs hand but in the end its in the clubs benefit to sell at a decent price rather than have an asset sitting in the reserves, losing value and potentially causing unrest in the squad.

Bogarde is a good example but that was more the case of he didn't want to leave, Chelsea couldn't sell him so he just played out his contract in the reserves training on his own.

Suarez I think was the last example of the club telling the club he would train with the reserves unless he signed a new contract.

Winston Bogarde comes in for a lot of stick, but as a Chelsea fan, I really struggle to see what he did wrong. I would have done the same in his position.

Abdoun at Nottingham Forest.
Some flair but no effort. Allowed to rot in the reserves....for over a season. Loaned out to a Belgian club for part of last season. Made 4 appearances IIRC
