Off the back of the Gianluca Vialli thread (I'm a Chelsea fan but he seems to have been universally liked), players that play or played for clubs you don't support or even despise, that you can't help liking.

For me, currently playing, Kane & Son at Spuds. From the past, Ian Wright and Stuart Pearce. Probably others I can't think of at the moment.

Kante
Messi
De Bruyne
Fernández
Bellingham
Foden
Kompany
David Silva
Iniesta
Xavi
Henry
Viera
Batistuta
Totti
Scholes

Just a few off the top of my head. I get the impression Kante is an all round good bloke. Fernández is a great player with a bit of an attitude problem at times but will probably get back to his best now Ronaldo has flounced.

I forgot to add Xavi Alonso whilst he was at Liverpool.

Hard not to like Saka from Arsenal. Seems a nice kid, and of course an excellent footballer.

This breaks down into players you admire as players & decent people. So Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona, all the usuals. On the other side of the equation, Kompany is hard not admire as a decent guy. Same for rashford & it kills me to say this as a life long Spud - Ian Wright. Top bloke.

Yes indeed, like him a lot. He's very religious, and reads the bible every day, but he's only young, so hopefully he'll mature up and grow out of it. hehe

Agree ,there are a couple of opposition players I enjoy watching currently (De Bruyne being the main one) but as for liking personally no one currently (I'd say rashford but I'm a red so it doesn't count),Juan mata was a top bloke as well at chelsea and United.
Eden Dzecko as well was an absolute gent ,he rented a flat from a friend of mine (several players rented the said flat over the years and most of them were dicks but he was a proper gent.)

I’m torn with this. I can think of a few rival players that I’ve warmed to now that they’ve retired, but really disliked them when they were playing such as Ian Wright, Henry and a fair chunk of the Arsenal team of that era if aim honest, although some I still can’t stomach. Players I had a soft spot for even when playing, definitely Zola in that group.

Players I admire who are still playing with rival teams are definitely De Bruyne & Kane. Hard to think of many others, as the current crop seem quite a dislikeable bunch, although I’m sure they equally don’t speak very highly of me hehe

Despite being a United fan I also quite like Jordan Henderson. Seems a really good pro, proper hard working, and through graft and determination has had a great career for Liverpool and England.

Yes, a thimble of talent coupled with an ocean of desire and application. You have to admire the career he's had given his limited abilities.

Agree with this. He gets on my tits sometimes but he's a wholehearted player.

From the current league - de Bruyne.

From previous years - Gerrard.

Never understood the negativity he gets.Pretty much the perfect pro.Rice would be the perfect replacement for him eventually.

Jack Grealish. Enormous talent, constantly fouled but (almost) always has a smile on.

Son from Spurs. Always happy, always scores against us, fantastic striker.

Joe Allen ran the show for most of the game at Bristol City today so I’d quite like him thanks

Also Viktor Gyökeres at Coventry seems a skilful player, happy to run at defence and quite pacy. Looks like Everton are keen on him?

Lots of good suggestions, going to suggest James Milner, proper professional and always a fans favourite at any club he plays for.
