Absolutely loving this ref.

Partey booked for kicking the ball away.

Arteta booked for being Arteta.

Good they are sticking to the new guidelines. Let’s see how it goes through the season and if the other refs will copy.

Took 100 minutes to get interesting.

It's been a pretty dull affair so I guess a shootout seems a fair result.

Hadn't realised there's no extra time.

In terms of play, I thought it was an interesting enough match. Arsenal looked to have decent spells, but were too slow in the final third.

game time clock needed if we're doing this properly. lumping on time at the end and then on top of that at the ref's judgement is a farce.

They lost a few minutes of stoppage time due to the head injury. It was reasonable for the game to run on beyond 100 minutes.

If the FA wanted to do it properly then the clock should be stopped every time the ball is dead. But the FA is very slow to evolve and would actually mean the players play a full 90 minutes rather than 50 minutes or less.

a study was done and the average time the ball was on-field and the game being played was about 34 mins per half i think.

I'm not sure it's that much. A recent article stated the ball is in play 64% of the time which comes out to about 58 minutes.

wouldn't surprise me. certainly isn't 45 mins as people would expect though. i think there would be a huge psychological barrier to putting a 30 min game time clock up in stadiums.

A bit farcical to leave it to the ref. FFS just have an off-field timekeeper that stops the clock appropriately and let them end the game when time is up. Simples.

How long did it take to implement a video referee or goal line technology? rofl

Rugby has been way ahead of football for a long time in technological advances.

Ultimately they need to have stop clocks and reduce each half to 30 minutes, which is roughly how much play we actually get now.
