Sven-Goran Ericsson - Terminal Cancer

Very sad, I rather liked him though I always said I’d have preferred an English manager.

Always sad when someone gets taken by this utterly horrid disease. I always loved Sven, seemed someone that lived his life to the full, was never sure about him as a coach, but no one will ever forget the 5-1 will they?
There was a great one from Didi Hamann, he tells a story of when they were in Thailand on tour and Didi was lounging by the pool. Sven came over with a bottle of champagne and two glasses. Didi asked “what are we celebrating boss?” Sven said “life Kaiser, life”.
Absolute certified top shagger as well. Hope his final days are as comfortable as possible.

Very sad news indeed. I’ve just read that it is pancreatic which would explain the time frame. When he was the manager of Manchester City I met him very briefly in The Lowry. A charming man and very humble too. As noted above, who can ever forget that magical game against Germany. It’s a shame that the “golden” generation of England players couldn’t have won something under his tenure. I too hope his final days are as comfortable as possible. BRM.

my dad died of that aged 54, got a work colleague who is about 54 as well going through it now looking like he hasn't got long left.
He'd battled it well for 2 years, and even had a good scan result 3 months before he passed, but one month after the scan and he deteriorated very quickly and was in a hospice within another 5 weeks and was gone a week later.
Having openly stated he wished he'd managed Liverpool FC in his life, and after a bit of fan pressure for him to manage the Liverpool Legends game in March, Jurgen Klopp has made an open invitation for Sven to join him in running Liverpool for the day.
A great offer, I hope it happens.
