Fifa confirms Saudi Arabia as 2034 World Cup host

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c1j0...

Wasn't in any doubt after the closed bidding process.

All the same issues that everyone bought up around Qatar 2022 will apply for this but nothing will be done.

Also due to the climate this will be another winter world cup just like Qatar 2022.

It's going to screw up a lot of league fixtures, etc

I wonder which organisation is more corrupt; FIFA or the IOC?

We'll find out when the Saudis bid for the 2036 Winter Olympics.

It’ll be a close-run thing for sure

All I can think of is that song Money Talks by Dirty Cash.

It makes a mockery of FIFA, their ethics and stand on human rights, but no doubt the local associations like the FA will take a stand and refuse to participate…….. or even more strongly may possibly wear a coloured armband or not.

Yep, none of those fancy stadia will be cheap, even using the mega cheap imported labour.

I didn't even think for one moment SA wouldn't get this for 2034......way too many fat brown envelopes being handed around in past few I suspect.

It's slightly different as no one else put in a bid.

Before I say what I'm going to say, I'll stress that I'm no fan of the Saudis or the way they do things. But the moderates are running the show and have been since 2018. Moderate by Saudi standards that is, not ours. And things have improved under their control. Women can drive, and nearly all women under 50 (and 18+) do. Women can apply for passports independently, girls can play football and play it in shorts and a short sleeved football shirt. A lot of draconian restrictions have been lifted, although to our eyes it's still not great.

The conservatives are still a force in KSA. They could regain power and reverse all the changes, so stuff that strengthens the hand of the moderates is a good thing. And getting the WC does just that.

The conservatives would love to be able to say "you pander to the West and they still hate us". So KSA getting some benefits from the changes to their society is the last thing the hard liners want to see.

Pretty much …
Que media outrage on human rights ,cheap Labour deaths ,after all is said and done the WC will be in Saudi as the people who decide don’t give 2 fks and it’s always about the money , pundits will be on to critise the regime and will still be on planes when it kicks off to pick up their wedge.

Qatar broke the mould and it’s all forgotten about…next…!!

What can be done? Though. Boycott? No fans? No coverage or at least don't watch it? Qatar was just a bad but nobody did a thing...

Development artwork without pervy images of lycra-clad jogging babes and short-skirted office milfs? It'll never sell.

FIFA says no - just like QATAR - indeed FA & Harry Keane were going to wear one, until FIFA said they would ban them for competitions....
