Season Tickets - Do you share yours?

For the first time in many years, I have a season ticket.
When I last had one I’d give it to a friend/relative if I was unable to attend, and have taken advantage of others generosity on many occasions over the last few years.
I can’t see any harm in this practice - in fact it is probably on the whole beneficial for the club, however someone suggested to me that it is frowned upon now.
Any comments?

I had a season ticket for Norwich for about 10 years but gave it up 4-5 years ago having got disappointed with the lack of progress.

In the Prem, all season cards have to be digital now, which effectively means you can't share your ticket with other people unless you trust them with your phone.
For mine, if I can't attend a game I can either transfer it to another member who I know or I can sell back on the official ticket exchange. If it is sold the club pay me £40 which is the pro rata cost of each home game. The club then sells it to another member for more than £40.

Surely no need for anyone to have your phone,you set up a network on eticketing,get the ticket emailed to yourself then forward it on to whoever is having it? No. My ticket’s an eticket on my phone so it’s nigh-on impossible to share. They also issue credit card style STs, or you can have a conventional book of tickets. When I had the book of tickets me and my brothers (they also have STs and we all sit together) used to swap all the time if any of us couldn’t go, but now as I say it’s not possible with etickets.
Not a season ticket holder for Arsenal but pretty sure they can send their ticket to people in their network if they can't go or sell on the exchange.
I've shared my login if I've managed to get tickets and friends just download it to their phone. There was rumours the club was going to try put a stop to that but I don't think it's come about.

It's frowned upon mainly at the top level because it means the person going in to the ground isn't identified and tickets that are not resold through the official exchange platform run the risk of falling in to the hands of touts. Also, doing it for the odd game isn't so bad but when you get people grandfathering their tickets or doing "long term loans" to a mate then the clubs get annoyed because it's denying a ticket to someone at the top of the waiting list.When I last had one I d give it to a friend/relative if I was unable to attend, and have taken advantage of others generosity on many occasions over the last few years.

Man Utd have just had a massive crackdown on season ticket abuse which has been all over the headlines. They've cancelled hundreds of season tickets and memberships for people who they believe to be abusing the ticket privileges and reselling on the black market but the radio phone ins are full of people claiming to be innocent who have been caught in the clamp down.

True this. The Surry herald is up in arms about it. At spurs there’s two types of season ticket the premium ones that can be re sold on the exchange or passed to anyone you like. Or the normal ones which can be resold on the exchange or passed to another member.

West Ham still giving theirs out with packs of quavers?
Joking aside I’ve a few mates who West Ham fans (everyone needs tradesmen) and they are loving the Championship, primarily because of no VAR and interestingly they are saying that because there’s no VAR it actually leads to better refereeing.
Makes me almost wish it was us. ALMOST.

Without wishing to go too far off topic,it’s literally a breath of fresh air. Refs and Lino’s just get on with it,the players don’t stay on the ground like drama queens as they know the game is still going on and nothing will change and the whole game just flows so much better… I’d forgotten what real football feels like .That Manchester derby reminded me everything I hate about the PL,I’d happily stay in the Championship if we could have a few cup runs instead…er…one of which ended last night !West Ham still giving theirs out with packs of quavers?

I don't have a ST anymore but in the past we shared it between my brother and I.
Ticketing has come a long long way though and the ability to do that is long since limited with other means (resell) to give up tickets you don't want to use for games you have a seat for. That was already well in the mix when I left that industry a few years back. Phone sales and AI accelerated it even beyond early attempts like Glastonbury putting your photo on the ticket.
Unfortunately the ST holder demand usually reflects the GA demand, and if there are 1000s of holders that don't want to go to a game (midweek cup games for example) the demand for regular priced GA tickets will also be lacking.
Ultimately if the clubs are worried about looking empty (which they mostly aren't) the resold tickets would be cheaper and promoted more.
Generally - if you can still do it, it'll likely be for lower league clubs and they won't care as they just want people in the ground. Touting in general isn't strictly illegal and this isn't even that ... you might not get into a game every couple seasons because some newbie is following the guidelines to the letter but ... I'd carry on.
