I'm considering getting a WRX estate, 2004+

Is an 06+ Hawkeye WRX in the highest RFL band, or is that only the STi?

AFAIK early 06's slipped in before the higher VED band, STI's or WRX's it makes no difference, it is done on date of registration rather than engine size as non JDM Hawkeye 06 WRX's and STI's were still 2.5's. I had an 07 Hawkeye WRX which was in the higher tax bracket.

I had a 56 plate Hawkeye from new and it was the higher tax bands. Had I pulled my finger out and got one on an 06 plate (registered 1st March) I'd have been on the lower tax band.

What the man said. Look carefully but at least its easy to check now. Lots of ads make a real point of it if its an early car.

I had an 06 Wrx that was in the lower bracket. It was an sl model too so had heated supposedly leather seats and sunroof. It was fantastic but went though fuel like no ones business.

Great cars though, I miss mine.

Thanks all.

As an aside, if anyone is thinking of selling a nice Blob/Hawk WRX Estate in WR blue & wants a hassle-free sale please let me know!
There appears to be a lot of rubbish out there.

I held out for a very early Hawkeye to avoid the tax.
I found an estate in sl trim, wr blue on a 55 plate with a prodrive back box (whatever that's worth?), perfect spec for me.
However, the brakes were shagged, as was suspension all round, cambelt shat itself (but I caught it in time, before any apparent damage) , few other cosmetics I missed.
Wish id bought on condition and not worried too much about the tax. It would certainly annoy me come ved renewal time but the way it eats fuel means another 20quid ? a month seems neither here nor there.
