I know we have many interested and very knowledgeable members here, but just out curiosity, I wondered if in amongst all of the IT bods, accountants and lawyers, there are any scientists with PH membership? Please feel free to introduce yourself... my name is mike and i'm a chemist.

Qualified, but unless you count working as a research assistant between graduation and PhD, never practised. I got a job in IT development while I wrote up my thesis, and by the time I was finished I had a good, well paid job I liked and a mortgage. I was an aquatic biologist, PhD was in an obscure bit of fish ecophysiology.

Sometimes I think of scientists who work on coral reefs for a living. Other times I think of scientists who work on Midlands canals for a living...

I'm a physicist - medical physics specifically (i.e. radiotherapy). I spend most of my time playing with a neutron producing particle accelerator.

Yep. A chemist working in the energy/environment field at a university. I rarely get to do any experimental work now, as am mostly supervising or teaching students

I am a PhD student currently in the last couple of months of writing my thesis. I am looking at the evolution of some groups of fossil plants by making 3D computer models of them and comparing fossil and living specimen morphology.
Before I went back to Uni I had a stint in the real.world which I didn't like much. I was a GCMS analyst.

I did my BSc from 2001-2004 and came back in 2007, about to finish again soon with the possibility of a post doc here. I really should go somewhere else !!!

BSc in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Imperial but didn't do anything with it, moved into IT unfortunately. Now I have three boys I *really* wish I'd done some more Chemistry because I'm only just realising how cool it is.
