It's not been all bad news for Space exploration this week. The Chinese have sent a capsule round the moon and returned it to Earth, in the process capturing this pic.

And here's the mini capsule.

It's caption time -

"Herro, Herro - anybody in there?"

The moon photo is stunning by the way.

I laughed, but only in a 1970s sort of way.

And there I was thinking the Earth was bigger than the moon.

sceptics might say that picture looks odd, no marks at all on the ground or surrounding area, almost as if it were staged for a photoshoot..

Well, obviously it is. If you look up tonight with your hand to one side of the moon, you'll find it's even smaller than your palm!

That's perfectly fine. I was wearing flared trousers and a kipper tie when I was dreaming up the caption.

It will have impacted at slow speed with a relatively cold heat shield so it's unlikely to mar the ground significantly

Yes - what marks would be expected?

It's just like a hot air balloon landing.

The poor old moon is looking a bit tattered and torn isn't it.

Needs a nice warm protective jacket

I wonder if IPCC could find a way to syphon some of that dangerous carbonic plant food gas up there to start the bioengineering off

I like, "in no particular order"

Both photos

Eric's dangerous humour wink

And a decent kipper tie with flares, I still have quite a restrained wardrobe of such.

Awaiting the new fashion renaissance.

Surely cannot be long to wait now

edit for dodgy keyboard response, 2Ps instead of 2Cs frown

The photo gives a very good indication of how different the far side of the moon is compared to the side that permanently faces earth.

'Herro' is not a 'genuine racist slur'. I doubt the Chinese give a st, they're too busy doing things to fret over Western PC fads.
