I don’t really want to risk contamination by delving into flat earther websites. Can anyone explain what they believe, if they are not accepting that the Earth is a sphere?

When I heard of flat earthers a few years back I though it was a joke or there was some underlying purpose (like the church of Satan in the US which I think is about separation of church and state) but it seems they are serious.

I have to say I am curious as to how FE'ers think one can navigate around the Earth if it's flat.

Apparently the planet is a disc surrounded by a big wall of ice at the edges.

I guess they just see it as one big loop?

From watching the netflix doc on them it seems like a lot of them are just going against the grain.

Think all governments are lying to us etc etc

There was a woman on it and her initials was CIA as soon as she started questioning them she was booted out and was was considered a spy from the CIA.. obviously.

They analyse flight paths, (certain flights do fly over certain parts of the world) theres a laser test that hilariously fails at the end of the doc trying to prove there isnt a curve.

But if it is a disk then it would have an underside so wouldn’t you be able to walk off the end and explore the bottom or just fly around the whole thing...like we do with the spherical earth?

The earth is flat.

There is a firmament/dome that keeps all the air in.

The moon and sun revolve above the flat plane.

There is a special army that protect the periphery of the flat earth to stop people getting to the edge ("south pole).

No one has traversed the south pole because its impossible.... even though it has been done and GPS tracked

Gravity doesn't exist.

ISS is a lie.

No one has been into space.

No one has been to the moon.

etc etc

I wonder how they explain how GPS works if there are no satellites?

I met a 'real' one last year at a festival. She said the round earth lie is the work of the devil and it's been going on for centuries. When I mentioned empirical observation she said she'd done some test involving standing on a hill (or cliff?) so she'd seen it with her own eyes. She referred to 'luminaries' in the sky - took me a while to realise she meant the stars - they're not gazillions of miles away after all, they're very close. Yes Tim Peake is in on it too. I would have taken the piss a bit more but before we got onto the flat earth stuff she'd been quite generous with her tequila and things so it would've been impolite!

Some conspiracy theories have the possibility, however remote, of being true and I will generally entertain at least listening to the argument.

The flat earthers on the other hand are just insane.

Do they explain why they think they are being lied to about all this? Why do they suppose 'the illuminati' want to keep the flat earth a secret, or why they pretended we went into space, or pretended to launch the ISS?

Why would there need to be a conspiracy about any of this? To the benefit of whom?

Oh yeah forgot the gravity one - how can all that water stick to a ball I ask you! The mental contortions there are astounding.

I've never understood what the benefit of the "conspiracy" would be for all those Govt agencies etc - what's the ruse for in their minds?
