Exploding a watermelon...
Discussion
Yes really, for a film, my head needs to be blown up.
By all accounts they used a watermelon and shotgun for the ending in the film Scanners.
My thoughts so far... Scoop out the middle, put in the insides of a load of fireworks wrapped in clingfilm, make a fuse and stand well back.
Or, put a football bladder inside and connect to a compressor.
Any good ideas gratefully accepted.
Yes this is me.

I'm guessing we're not talking big budget stuff here?
The cheap and cheerful way is to find a stock clip of an exploding water melon, something like this: https://stock.adobe.com/uk/search/video?k=Explodin...
Then use Apple Motion of After Effects to apply a clip of your head to the form of the melon and motion track the sections of your head so they 'stick' to the remnants of the melon as it explodes. Blend out the background and lay over whatever contextual background you need.
I say cheap and cheerful... that's a good solid two day's work for a competent motion artist!
If you have got a bit of budget, this is the sort of this chap does: https://www.sculpturestudios.co.uk/default.asp?tex...
Nice chap and very helpful and might not be as costly as you imagine!
