Unfortunately I realised yesterday that my tyre was looking rather low. Filled up with diesel, and topped the pressure up, down to a third of what it should be so decided to keep an eye on it. When I got home from work I realised it had gone right down again. Slow puncture I though, so I got a tin of tyreweld out of the boot. Result:

Not one but TWO cans have faulty valves. Meaning instead of inflating my tyre the foam sprayed all over me and my car.

Resultant mess:

I actually had to drive this as my disabled brother was at the hospital. Meaning the trye is now ruined as is the alloy wheel. Now I know mistakes can happen, but two cans brought from Asda two months ago did this, so you might want to consider if this is the only thing in your boot in case of a puncture.

You didnt HAVE to drive it. You knew that if you drove on it, you would need a new wheel / tyre and I would expect a taxi to be cheaper.

If I found that a tyre was down to one third pressure, I would top it up and drive directly to a tyre place, or home.

You bought 2 cans fro Asda recently. Were you expecting this to happen, or did you have a punture a month ago as well.

I assume you know that tyre weld is a temporary "get you home" repair and you have to replace the tyre anyway, so you have only cost yourself the price of a new wheel.

Let me guess, two months ago you had a puncture on this very same tyre?

^ Said it all really. The tyre would have been fooked whether the tyre weld had worked or not.

Welcome to PH!

That mess looks hideous-I think that removing the foam could be a bit of a nightmare, but the wheels should survive if you are careful?

I'm not blaming anyone for that. I took a choice and will live with it. And no the tyre was not punctured. I"ve never used this stuff before.

I was just wanting to warn anyone who was interested that this stuff really isn't what it's cracked up to be. Ofcourse that's only my experience. But I do think two cans out of two, is pretty shoddy quality control.

Did you read the instructions on the tin?

Thanks.

The gunk in tyreweld that you hear about really is just that, a sticky horrible gluey mess.

Yes and followed them precisely.

Same happened to me but the fault was in the one holding the can rather than the can its self. You have to hold it onto the tyre valve a lot harder than you think. As I was wiping my face of all the foam that sprayed over it my Dad took the can off me and demonstrated how to do it whilst trying not to laugh too hard at me. smash

I'd blame myself, but I know that I screwed it up completely as far as you can. I'm tempted to fire of an email to the manufacturer but probably won't. Can't see it doing any good. Brought two new wheels off ebay, so will stick one in the boot and one on the wheel.

Sorry, I was not meaning to have a go at you.

Re-reading my post, it was a bit harsh.

I've used a couple of time and worked fine for me. Most likely a faulty batch. send a letter to them to advise your problem. I only used them to get me to a tyre shop thou.

I might do mate, but I'm only on leave until sunday and would rather spending it with family and friends rather than writing emails and stuff (I suppose thats a bit weak given that I'm writing on here).

I was only going to use it to get my brother from the hospital (about a 10 mile round trip) and then go this morning and get another tyre stuck on. Just annoying more than anything.

Fair enough. I did screw is as far as you can though. And if you can see, its not come out of the tube at all. It was just coming out of the part where you twist it on and off. Even when I took the first can off it wasn't coming out of the plastic tube, so I really can't see how any amount of screwing would have worked.

I had one roll of the seat of the van, hit something on the floor at the perfect angle to piece the tin, while on the motorway. Stuff doesn't come out of fabric very easily lol.

Please don't tell me anymore frown. I've got this crap all over my steering wheel and seats. I got sprayed like the rest of the car. Oh well. Atleast it's not pissing it down outside today, I'll have a chance to get it all out.

Typical British consumer. Willing to whine about it, but not do anything that might be productive. If they do have a defective batch out there how do they know if no-one tells them!
