Hand pump, how do I clean it?

Changed the gearbox oil on my VX today using a Laser hand pump;

Aside from it dismantling itself several times, this went well. Next I did the rear diff fluid on our CR-V, I had plenty of fluid so flushed the pump out first with the spare fluid before refilling.

My question is though, how do I clean it out for next time? Right now it is a greasy mess, what is the best way to flush it out in preparation for the next use, which may not be for some time.

Hot soapy water?

Some form of degreaser?

A good swill out with a dash of petrol or at a push, white spirit, and a decent bottle brush should clean the gunk out.
