I prefer the genuine vice grips they do take a bit of a pounding in my toolbox, please note that several different jaw options are available to suit differnt jobs so this will help.
Do not buy the cheapo pattern ones or you wont be happy.

Can you still get genuine Mole Grips? My father has some but when I looked a few years ago I couldn't seem to buy any. Instead I bought Irwin Vise Grips which are far superior to the chocolate draper pair I also have in the box.

Genuine vice grips are what you want, any of the cheap copies are just frustratingly poor

Bahco used to make a set, strong as fook! Had them about 8 years, been through all sorts and still working like a charm.

Vise Grips have been around for donkey's years, so why bother trying to improve them? Vise Grips are pretty boring, right? And how could you make Vise Grips better anyway?

It turns out I was wrong.

Fed up with Irwin grips, which aren't what they used to be since manufacturing moved from the US to China, I was looking for something better. I got these:

OK, they're made in China like Irwin, but the Milwaukee quality's better. They feel a touch more solid and better built than Irwin, as you'd expect from Milwaukee. But the best bit is the Torque Lock. No more faffing to get a tight grip through trial and error: Milwaukee® Torque Lock™ pliers provide faster tool setup and more locking force for the professional tradesmen. The patent pending thumb screw provides the user with a more convenient geometry for hand force, while providing clearance to generate more torque with the unique screwdriver through-hole design.

Sometimes the cleverest stuff is very simple. Well done Milwaukee thumbup for making the humble mole grip even better.
