Car had mot this week failed on a tyre a fog light and steering lock (which I now know should've passed on steering lock). Anyway hubby went out to try fix rear fog light last night and since then my EPS light has come on and my steering is very heavy. Aaarggghh. Anyone know what this could be? Can't locate which fuse it may be but took them all out and they all seem ok.

Means the power feed to your electric power steering is no longer connected. Which is why your steering is heavy.
No point taking the car for re-MOT until this is sorted as its a fail.
I've no idea what the fault could be. I'm a little puzzled as to how this happened just by fiddling with the rear light.
Did he disconnect the battery? Is it possible he forgot to reconnect the cables or has he damaged a cable?

Unsure. I doubt if he disconnected battery though. Will have to try and locate correct fuse later. Pain in the neck!

I have no experience of working on EPS steering.

A quick look on the net says that a low battery can be a cause of eps issues including warning lights on and heavy steering as the pump won't work correctly. Don't suppose he left the lights on did he?
With modern cars low batteries can cause all sorts of electrical issues & I'd suggest charging the battery with a battery charger to see if that resolves it.
Your alternative would be to replace the battery. Running the engine should eventually bring the charge up enough.

What car is it?. Also be worth looking on a make dedicated forum to see if there are any known issues.

Hi

Had a similar issue recently when I changed the alternator on my golf. When reconnecting the battery and starting the car, the EPS warning light came up red aswell as the ESP (traction control) light came on constantly. A quick look at forums were stating all kinds of issues regarding ABS pumps etc (£1k fixes). Another suggested to recalibrate the rack. On VW's this is done simply by starting the engine turning the wheels full lock both left and right (to the stops) and drive forwards 50-100metres, upon doing this the lights went out. Apparently the EPS needs to see the limits of the rack (ie-full lock) on both sides to work out where straight ahead is, when the battery is disconnected for a time (even though the radio kept its settings?). Might be worth a quick try before going to more drastic measures, this is a procedure for VW's, might be worth looking at corsa forums to see for any suggestions for this.

I no this is a old post but you do have to recalibrate eps on corsa c models when battery is disconnected or voltage loss.

You can do it by using tech2 software or manually by making sure steering is dead ahead then turning ignition on position 2 then wait for all dash light to go out then turn the steering full lock to the right to it’s full extent wait 10 seconds then start the engine.

Hi Ash99, I'm glad I found your post! I just reconnected the battery on my 52 plate Z12XE and the EPS light wouldn't go out, I tried your manual solution and it worked a treat, many thanks to you! Happy bunny here! 🙂
