I saw one for sale not that long ago using a ground screwdriver as a "key" - it was an R reg though so not sure if they introduced immobilisers a bit later on

It's really easy to fix in three steps

1) burn it,
2) claim the insurance
And 3) buy a Transit...

Gutted, so you're going to have to do it right as well!!! it isn't really on handing it back to him with a screwdriver as a key.

In that case, ring up the local LDV garage (if you still have one) and assuming you can, off to the scrappy you go....

dependent on the age of the van really.
If its an old one then you'll be ok, if its a newer one, they need coding and not many people can code them. We had a 52 plate convoy from memory that needed a barrel and keys, got there in the end but it was a ball ache.

I'll bet i can out heap you with mine biggrin :

I can see both wheels from the drivers seat, both inner and outer wheel wells have fell off
step has totally rusted off
you have to be careful where you put your feet in the cab, the rubber floor is only so strong wink
i nearly fell out of it once when the entire RHS drivers seat mounting fell through the floor and as i fell sideways, the door sprang open because it won't close properly, only the fact i was holding onto the steering wheel kept me in
the tipper has sprang a leak so won't reach anything like full height
the rear brakes sprang a leak, so folded over brake pipes and glued the open end up (didn't work very well so use the gears to slow down now!!!)
the battery tray has rusted itself out of existence so the battery is held in the vehicle by the wires
the front bumper brackets rusted so much that the bumper fell on the floor
the thermostat 'had a leak' until the wet stuff miraculously stopped coming out, that one fixed itself (empty rad, lol)

The wife is begging me to get her another one, but i just can't euthanase something that so clearly wants to live... it just keeps on starting. I love that pickup!

will stick some pics up of the one i'm doing for my mate, its a camper, think we have just caught it in time, apart from nuggets like me getting near it,

welded in new side step,
floor patches welded,
wired 240v,
12v leisure charger,
timing belt n tensioner,
new water pump,
new alt belt,
took off steering box as adjuster had siezed/freed up/ back on n nice n tight (ish), new belt,
2x new front brakes calipers n pads (Huge calipers),
"new" front grill to be welded in,
floor stripped,
n rust killed,
new exhaust back box(awol),
re-upholstered drivers seat squab,
main/leisure battery monitor in dashboard,
wipers, scuttle leaks sorted/ing,

n loads of bitumen sheet for soundproofing going in, and foam pads,,

should be done n rolling by 2nd weekend in december, n a wee run to spark up the boatman wood burning stove with a wee shandy/overnighter to celebrate would be good. Engine is as sweet as a nut at 124k..... although deafening, but looking for ford 2.5di turbo breaking to up the power on the na DI engine if anyone knows where a breaker is?

I had a fleet of these things, from memory the V plate ones have Transit engines with immobilisers.

Now that LDV have vanished (thank god) you'll struggle to get any support on these things unless you have a decent auto-electrician who has the correct diagnostics for this year of van.

I needed a fuel pump for one of my 02 vans last year, the pump's are coded to the ecu so second hand pump's won't talk to the new engine.
In the end I found a decent sparks who managed to get the whole lot talking to each other, but 2 other sparks failed to get them married up.

Weigh it in, you'll get £150 for it yes

Transits are to fuel what Billy Bunter was to cream buns .

I love the mental image that's given me hehe

Unbelievable that they were made in a first-world country. We had a minibus version that absolutely stank of piss, even when it was brand new.

Hi Steve, it's been a wee while since you wrote this, but I've bought a 54 plate Convoy Luton (2,4) which has had the steering lock removed after barrel was mashed up,
Looking for advice about whether I can fit replacement steering lock (or just replace barrel, vendor has the old steering lock) and bypass the immobiliser. This thread has been quite popular for instructions (GAZBEAM, Joe 90 Cardoc etc.) for bypassing, but these seem to have applied to banana block.
I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if they apply to duratorq 2.4 at all, or with different moves - do you?
I haven't picked it up yet, but it's in a non-urban location, so I'm imagining it won't be a doddle getting an auto locksmith out...
Thanks
