Hello

I have got the above golf, recently we have had really bad rain. There was a bit of water on the road i was traveling on, a KA was in front of me and got through no problem. I followed with the consequences being that i got though the water and getting about 50 yards and the car died.

There was no bang or anything it just died. Got home and put on the ignition and there was still lights and power, attempted to start and it just went clunck.

I just tryed turning the engine by hand in it goes a bit then stops and also the same with doing it the opposite way, i have the injectors and glow plugs out thinking there might have been hydrolic lock. but no such luck.

can anyone help or point in right direction please.

thanks

The Dual Mass Flywheel is known to go on these usually around 100k mark, and may be causing the "lock up" you seem to be experiencing

You have probably just flooded the alternator/battery/starter somwhere along the way.

If it still ran for 50 yards I don't think you have pulled water in.

You say you can turn the engine & then it stops, do you know how much compression you are trying to overcome on a diesel engine?....... LOTS. If it comes to a "soft" stop, rather than a hard clunk (turning by hand) then I still think the same.

Dry it out, charge the battery & try again.

I'm 98 % sure that your engine has swallowed water and probably bent a con rod after having a similar experirence in north yorks a few years ago drove into 12/14" of water and the first bit did not stop us 50 yds and as as the next flood started the engine slowly stopped we were recovered and let my local indy look at it he drained the sump etc ,oil and water came out he got it started but at 1500/2000 rpm knockknock bent conrod hence ins write of as un economical repair
