Just bought a Hyunday Santa Fe 2.7 V6. The timing belt is due so it's my first job on the list. Hyundai as expected want a fortune for the parts, and some research appears to show that they use Gates parts anyway. So as they have served me well before, I am going to get a Gates Timing Belt Kit for it. What's confusing me is the price of one on eBay, which seems too good to be true.

My friend who works for GSF quoted me £145 incl VAT. This one is listed on eBay for £112

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191800524305?_trksid=p20...

But then this one is listed for half the price

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111884909491?_trksid=p20...

The only thing I can see different is the K code, the first is K015555XS and the second is K025555XS but they are both listed as fitting a 2004 Santa Fe V6.

What am I missing? Is the second one a knock off? If I can get the cheaper one which is genuine Gates then that's great, but I don't want a dodgy timing belt.

Thanks

You may never know if it's fake or not. I think for a critical part I'd spend a bit extra and buy from a reputable source. Peace of mind and all that.

There appear to be 3 standard kits and most places all call them a kit.

1. Belt.

2. Belt, Tensioner & possibly idler pulley.

3. Belt, tensioner, idler pulley & water pump.

You are probably looking at 2 different kits hence the very slight difference in part number, although neither advert is really detailed enough to tell.

Could be worth calling both.

BMW is correct, they are two different kits hence the price difference. The Gates cat is available online and will tell you what is included.

E-BMW edited his post after I replied, but thank you both for the clarification. I had no idea Gates had an online catalogue so I looked up and you are absolutely correct!

The K015555XS kit contains a belt, a tensioner pulley and an idler pulley.
The K025555XS kit contains a belt, a tensioner pulley, an idler pulley and a vibration damper. So I will get that kit as I might as well change the damper too and a water pump seperately.

Interestingly, the one with the vibration damper is the cheaper one. So I will double check before I buy anything.

Thanks again guys.
