Hi, I bought a 2002 fiesta from a dealer last weekend. It had a slight rattly/ticking noise which dealer said was a lose exhaust clamp. Now that I've had it a few days I'm not so sure. I also had an engine warning light come on Monday as well.

I know what's on the tip of your tongue "Take it back!". Well on Monday I attempted to but they didn't answer their phone all day. When I did finally get hold of them they told me that they don't have a workshop and that I should take it to their 3rd party garage to have a look.

So I took it to the 3rd party and he plugged it in. The ecu light is 'crankshaft sensor'. But, he had no time to investigate further and said I should bring it back on Wednesday (today).

So I phoned 3rd party up today and they said "Well, we're too busy today, bring it in on Tuesday". Ffs!

So not wanting to be driving a ticking time bomb, I wonder if yawl can help...

The ticking noise makes the engine sound a bit like a diesel engine, and it gets faster/louder as you accelerate. What I've also noticed is that is it only occurs whilst on the gas. If I leave it in gear, (engine still rotating 3k+), with no gas pedal = no ticking noise. Which makes me think it's not crankshaft or any type of bearing related? - I don't know though)

Apart from the noise and the ECU light, the car appears to run and drive very well. I've also changed the oil, filters and spark plugs, runs a bit nicer but no real change.

Any advice?

Thanks

Don't do any work at all on the car while you're waiting for the dealer to deal with the problem. At best, you're wasting time and money on a car you might end up rejecting if the problem turns out to be serious and the dealer doesn't resolve it to your satisfaction. At worst, you're making it possible for the dealer to blame you for all sorts of things.

In real terms you have potentially just invalidated any warranty you may have had & have also just told the world(wide web) that you have done so.

Hopefully no body working for either has read this or notices the new oil/filter that wasn't on the car beforehand!

Your original opening gambit was right there is only one thing to do TAKE IT BACK whether they have a workshop or not is not your problem, take it back to where you bought it & hope my second paragraph is accurate!
