That’s it lying upside down, a very simple gearbox.


This is how it normally sits, being driven by the attached hydraulic motor, and when all connected back up…..
...drives this! (A horsewalker!!)

I’m re-doing what I did 5 years ago, and that’s stripping the bugger down and ‘fixing it’. Last time the people I asked to fit new bearings and oil seals managed to crack the casing (Aly) which caused no end of grief and sucking in of breath which resulted in this.

I don’t think the outer shaft is sealing against the inner oil seal with the result that water and crap gets in and the internal oils end up as sludge and emulsified gish.
I’d love to be able to just buy another – any help would be really appreciated.

Looks to be a lot of damage to the surface of the large gear's shaft plus what looks to be wear where the seal runs.
I wonder if a speedi sleeve might provide the solution - once fitted they are easily replaced to deal with future wear & you use the normal seal so no hunting around for an odd size. Used several on various applications over the years, the latest being the crank pulley on my RRC. Did require the pulley shaft machining to slightly reduce as it was just a tad too big for the appropriate sleeve.
