I've an old Skoda Superb mk1 that I use for commuting duties, it's worth next to nothing so I try to do all of the servicing myself under bangernomics rules smile

In recent months I've noticed a rattle from the front end, but put it down to failing shocks, however...noticed the noise vanished under braking, and a bit of googling suggests pad rattle.

I replaced the front discs and pads within last 12mths/5000 miles with 'Brembo' from ECP, decent well know brand I assumed. Gave carriers a good clean with a wire brush, greased pad 'ears', no greas on back of pads as advised as it had the peel-off self adhesive backing.

Anything I should be looking for, is it as simple as me using non original pads (in which case why didn't they rattle from new?), or should I be looking at other parts of the braking system as potential culprits?

TIA.

Sounds like you may be missing a set of anti rattle shims, found these mentioned as being from the Superb, not sure if they are the right ones obviously though, you will need to check.

Cheers, I had thought that but a few things made me think not - they werent present when I did the last pad change (set before were changed by a local indy garage, couldve tossed them I suppose), and they didnt rattle for the first 5k miles of use.

Id check with my local Skoda dealer, but theyre hopeless...
