Actually set screws but the question is.........

Is there a specific name for bolts like these that have a smaller than "normal" head, these are M8 with `10mm spanner size ?

Found these by scrolling through hundreds of "M8 bolt" on Ebay.................

I'd call that a "flanged bolt".

Searching those descriptions just seems to bring up flanged bolts with normal (eg 13mm on 8 mm bolt) size heads?

Stainless flavour:

You can find cheaper / different strengths / materials. They are pretty common.

It's JIS. It stands for Japanese Industrial Standard.

^^^ cool, every day is a school day.
It often seems that the hardest thing about getting hold of parts is finding out what they are called.

^^ This! I've got to find some kind of 45' conical serrated washer and have no idea what the proper name is.

Are Schnorr washers what you are looking for?

I don't think so Auntie looking at them, the ones I need are to fit into a countersink to stop the M6 C/S screw from loosening:

I think it's a conical serrated lock washer of some type, but no idea where to buy a few.

Google suggests that they're available in a conical design as well as flat.

Nord-Lock offer something similar, although I've only seen flat ones.

This.

Loctite the screw threads. Mug off the 'lock' washers.

Use plain washers if you really need to, but all luck washers I've ever seen, other than Nordlock washers, do not work.

The high strength (green) loctite is really something... If suggest avoid using it on fasteners smaller than M8, or anything you can't get heat into to remove them.

The medium (blue flavour) is sufficient for the most part.

For small fasteners, delicate threads, aluminium threads, and low vibration assemblies, green is good.
