Hey all, first post!

Tomorrow i am attempting to carry out a front brake pad and disc replacement on my 2012 qashqai. This will be my 2nd only brake job (first was on a vectra 6 years ago) and i have a few questions.

Is ceratech brake lube ok for the caliper slide pins?

When pushing the caliper piston back do i need to crack the bleeder with a bleed bottle or can i get away with opening the brake reservoir?

Is it common practice to put a bit of red rubber grease or any other rubber safe grease just under the caliper piston boot?

When pumping the brakes after finishing does the car need to be running or off? Only ask as when i done the vectra brakes i pumped them when the car was off and they stiffen up but when the car was started the peddle fell to the floor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sure it's fine but why lube them. They're a non-moving part so clean them and fit them.

Open the reservoir, remove a turkey baster of fluid and that will be fine. Add it back once reassembled.

I don't.

You shouldn't need to open the system so won't have this problem. If you do then remember to bleed the master cylinder to avoid this happening.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Agreed.

Alot better than copper grease which eventually dries out and goes rock hard.

Take cap off reservoir.
No need for grease on the pistons.
Ceratech on back of pads / slide pins.
Pump the brake doesn't matter car on or off.
Do not open the bleeders unless you are pressure bleeding the brakes.

If you are at all unsure have a professional or knowledgable friend help you. Brakes are one thing that needs to be working.

I agree with xjay1337
I have done brakes for 30 years but not on anything this modern but I am guessing and someone else here will be able to confirm a 2012 Nissan is no different to the early 2000s vehicles I normally work on ?

I have only used care lube copper grease for the simple reason I always have it here . There is no reason to bleed the brakes

Thank you all for the advice!

I got the brakes done thursday morning. I tried to update you all but posting was restricted for new members

All went swimmingly, only problem was getting the caliper mount off but eventually got it off.

Only thing ive noticed is when turning right at low speeds i hear a scrapping noise as if the disc is rubbing against something every rotation is this normal?

Again thank you for all the replies, was really helpful!

Take the wheels off and double check

They dont like new members posting too much as they too quickly work out that the site is full of shelve stackers with no money pretending to be rich motorist

Ah gotch ya! Well im a broke security guard 😁

I had a look and couldnt see anything but the scrapping has since gone, must have been the pads bedding in or its scraped away enough at something its created its own clearence. Other than that, it looks good.

I am pleased to hear that just needs keeping an eye at least when you do it yourself You know what have done and importantly what type of parts you have fitted

I've experienced similar after replacing CV joints on an old Nissan Primera. It turned out to be one of the discs rubbing on the brake backing plate.
I must have inadvertently bent the plate when freeing the hub from the drive shaft. I levered it clear again and all was well.
