97 XK8 Code reading delema
Discussion
Hi to all.
I'm trying to get to the bottom of reading the airbag codes on my 97 XK8 after an over-charging alternator fault. I've had a guy round to read the whole system and he then deleted all the codes and I'm left with just the airbag light. I've checked all the system over and over but I still have the warning light.
I've been told that this car was concieved on the IDS system and that Jaguar moved onto the SSD system in 2005 when it was joined by Land Rover. I've managed to find some software but I'm stuck on the VCM1 interface that was used in conjunction with the early software. There are plenty of VCM2s but they are for the SSD. I paid a visit to my local Jaguar main dealer who said they could read some of it, but maybe not all of it so its getting difficult to sort these early cars.
Does anyone on here know where I'm likely to find such product as I've had no luck so far. I'm sure there must be a few laying about in old workshops. Thanks

Problem is that airbag systems are usually on their own standalone ECU at that age so the codes can't be read unless you've got the specific connectors/software, which you may have, but it's not clear as you post uses lots of acronyms I don't recognise.
Anyways, I'm not surprised (albeit a little disappointed at the same time) that you local dealer couldn't sort it, the car is now too old for them the care about or have any remaining experience of.
Find yourself a good local specialist that has all the jaguar software readers and online access, and ask them to have a look. They'll be way more likely to care enough and know enough to fix it.
My own experiences of airbag lights/ecus issues on cars this age lead me to believe that the airbag ecus don't really have the same diagnostics abilities that we've come to appreciate with ODB, etc..., and can be a pig to sort out.
