I need to get a new set of jump leads. My current ones, which I got a few years ago seem to be rubbish. Got very hot whilst trying to jump start the shogun. Any recommendations?

I also need to get a new battery charger, what’s good?

Jump leads, look for the thickness of the core. They get hot because they are too thin, so the thicker the better.

If you need a battery maintainer then I have always had good experiences with Accumate or Optimate but I jear good things about Ctek. I have also used the cheap ones from Aldi or Lidl and they worked fine for about 4 years. Many of these will not actually charge a completely discharged battery though, for that you will need a full battery charger to get at least some charge into the battery (or charge it a bit from a running car using your thick jump leads) and then stick it on the battery maintainer which will then charge it (but slowly).

Also the shorter the better in terms of cranking power.

Motor factors will usually make up a set for you, or you can buy the cable and clamps and crimp them on yourself with a pair of ordinary pliers. I usually used 35-40mm2 cable as its good for 24v 350A which I occasionally need, all in cost me about £20 (£16 for clamps/£4 for cable).

As already said Lidl charger is good but doesn't do a fully drained battery(or anything less than 3v). Sealey 16A charger will charge fully drained battery but is double the price of Lidl.

Good afternoon, here you go, shop around for the best price
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Flexible-PVC-Battery-Wel...

I suggest 2 Meters red and 2 M black @ 60 mm squared 415 AMP

Now get something like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/croc-clip-PAIR-of-CROCOD...

Now look at all the scams on Ebay that quote Jump Lead Set 50mm cable 1000 + AMPS

Ebay is funny
