Key stuck in Ignition
Discussion
Help needed with this please. The car in question is a Suzuki Liana its a manual.
I got a new key cut local shop for the above car, the new key inserted into the ignition no problem and turned in order to start the car. (car never started due to key needing programed the car just turned over without firing up)
the problem is the new key is now stuck in the ignition it will only turn as far as the ACC position when trying to remove it. I can turn the key to on and start but it wont turn all the way to the off position so I cant pull the key out. What I can do is hold the original key next to the ignition barrel then the key that is stuck will start the car but it still wont switch to the off or steering lock position in order to pull the key out.. Any ideas why a new cut key would insert fine but not want to be removed?
All I have tried so far is to wiggle the key slowly and fast while turning the steering wheel.
Push the key in then try and turn to off position
Full lock with the steering wheel then try and remove
Tried to force the key to the off position but it felt like the plastic in the key might snap first before it moved...

Oh dear. Well, it's probably worth squirting a load of WD40 or GT85 into the lock barrel past the key itself, and then spending as long as you can stand before you get bored / the key comes out wiggling and tugging it in various directions (oo-er
)
If not, then....I'm afraid you've got a bit of a job on your hands removing the entire ignition barrel assembly.
Good luck!

I'd contact the people who provided the key. Firstly, they might be familiar with this type of problem and have some advice about how to get the key out; secondly I'd hold them liable for solving the problem, even if it means hiring a locksmith or replacing the switch; thirdly you'll want them to either fix the key or refund the cost in any case, and contacting them while you can demonstrate the problem will help you achieve that.
I assume the car is drivable now, and moderately secure since it can't be started without the second key.

Pretty obviously the key isn't the right shape on one side so it slides past the levers in the lock barrel in one direction but not the other. I also remember car keys from many years ago where you could lock a door with a key from another vehicle but only open it with the correct one. Contact the shop and tell them you hold them responsible for any expense in fixing this. Giving them the opportunity to fix it themselves first is better than just having it done and then trying to sue them for the cost.
Have a look at the ignition barrel, there might be a dust cover preventing it from being removed. I had this on an old Mondeo I recently bought as it had been standing for a while. I managed to move the dust cover out of the way with a small screwdriver and then used s
t loads of lithium grease, after a while it freed up and is smooth now.
