What on earth is this?
Discussion
I've had a mono LCD do that before. I believe what causes it is the elements not returning to their resting state and staying in their activated position. I was able to fix most of them by firmly pressing on the screen with a rounded object (i used a touch screen pointer which was perfect). Obviously you will need to get access to the LCD to do this, which looks like it could be difficult.
