Recommend me oil extraction pump please
Discussion
Hi Everyone
I've read all the pros and cons about oil suction extraction. I don't have a driveway, car is parked on the road, this would make oil changes much easier so works for me.
If anyone has a recommendation for one used on an MX5, that would be great.
Electric would be ideal.
Comments suggest some are useless some are great. So looking for a recommendation.
If you could post a link to purchase, that'd be appreciated.
Thanks

As you say different people have different experiences of them, so someone else will be along with that experience shortly, I am sure.
The reason for my post is to give a little additional info.
To change the oil & get it out by a pump it will either take forever due to being cold and therefore too viscous or be too hot due to you running the engine to make it runnier, which can cause other issues with the pump itself, finding the balance between the 2 is what causes most issues with these.

This is done a lot with inboard marine engines where there isn't access to the sump. Usually there is a large cylinder with a vacuum pump. There will be a selection of nylon tubes of varying diameters that you can slide down the dipstick tube.

One of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371032487483 and some plastic tubing from a pond/aquatic place (or ebay!)

I have the Pela and it's been used for engine oil, hydraulic oil, petrol from old mowers, etc etc etc and still continues to give good service. As mentioned above, the Pela works best when the oil is warm (not hot) and so can flow more easily.

I wouldn't bother with an electric one. I use a pello one, pump it leave it 20 minutes, oil is out. Works every time time done about 10 oil changes. Just do it 20 minutes after engine was running. Even used on cold oiljust takes longer. There is a knack finding the oil extraction sweet spot in the sump.
Or just pay national tyres to do an oil change for about 30 quid. I've used them a few times pretty good.

I've been using a 12.99 lidl oil pump on and off for about 2 years now with no issues, comes with leads and croc clips to connect to the battery, and all the pipes needed to get into the sump and out into a bottle, same as in this thread

Having said that i prefer to drain from the sump drain but not all cars have them and even some that do the drain sits higher that the actuall bottom of the sump so you allways leave some in using the sump drain (1.4 TDCi ford for instance).

I have one of these, owned it for a few years now and highly recommend it:

Originally got it for changing the ATF in my 4x4. The gearbox is sealed, no drain or fill plugs with just a dip stick. This pump emptied the box via the dip stick in a couple of minutes and I used it to pump the fresh oil back in. No mess, no laying on the ground it just makes it seem too easy. All done in under ten minutes in what otherwise would have been a sump off job whilst getting showered in ATF.
Works great for a quick engine oil change if you are being lazy and not changing filters, also good for pumping oil in to transfer boxes and those gearboxes that have the little tower above the fill hole in the sump.
