Automotive upholstery glue, leather to vinyl
Discussion
Hi all
Wonder if anyone can help. Doing a bit of DIY retrimming, have leather stitched sheets ready to go. In some parts I am going to recover what is there, which means sticking leather over vinyl. I have some Evostik contact adhesive which is good stuff but it does specifically mention not using on vinyl as the vinyl will leech in to the glue and not set.
What is the best option to use? Preferably, I would like a spray contact adhesive, but I also need some brush on stuff for other areas. Also could do with it this weekend.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Probably left it too late for this weekend unless there is an automotive retrimmers near to you that are open on a Sat am.
Normal aerosol adhesive is unlikely to be suitable due to the temperatures that the inside of a car left in the sun can get up to.
I'd suggest you would be better putting it off & speaking to a specialist trim suppliers such as Woolies or Martrim next week.
I relined the headlining of my RRC last year using a Martrim kit & was very impressed.

I’ve used this and it’s very effective. It’s a bit of a one shot deal, as in it’s very strong and almost impossible to separate once the surfaces are mated. Not sure if you can get it in the U.K. though. I brushed it, despite it saying for spray on application.

its ok it looks like the leather isn't going to be here by tomorrow now anyway.
I looked at Martrim but they also only seem to sell spray adhesives?
Look in their 'Glues and adhesives' section.I looked at Martrim but they also only seem to sell spray adhesives?
You'll see a big white tin £14.40.
I suggest you give them a call & discuss what it is you want to do.
The kit I had came with the blue labelled aerosol. That sticks like a good 'un & there is NO room for error - once contact is made that's it.
Woolies also list spreadable adhesive. Again, I would suggest you speak to them.
