Citroen xsara picasso help
Discussion
As you can guess with the title it's about my picasso. I'm hoping someone out there can give me a little guidance.
My clutch is on the way out the biting point is about 15mm from the top (as you depress the clutch), iv stalled it a few times trying to pull off.
As you can guess you'll know what question I'm going to ask next
?HOW HARD IS THIS TO DO AT HOME?
I've carried out quite a lot of home repairs and every thing went well
- electrical and mechanical -
I just hoping there may be a guide out there some where I can look over or watch before I undertake this task.
I know there is a vast range of Professionals out there to choose from and believe me I would but I can just about afford a new clutch kit, and haven a family makes it very hard to be without a car especially with all the little ones appointments.
So as you can guess I'm on my hands and knees just asking for a little bit of help and advice.
Thanks

Get a quote from a garage. They should be able to confirm your diagnosis from the symptoms.
If the quote isn't divided into parts and labour, try to look up the retail cost of the clutch kit and subtract that to get the rough labour cost. Divide that by the garage's labour rate to see how big a job it is. If you don't know what you're doing, multiply the garage's labour time by a factor of ten. That's how long it will take you, assuming nothing goes wrong.

IIRC the book time for a clutch time on one of these is 5/6 hours depending on model. Not actually done one myself but am told that it's a bit of a pig.
Book time on these is for an experienced person in workshop conditions on 2 post ramp.At home, 1st time, less experienced, you will take 3 or 4 times that. It can be done at home, it is a pig of a job, but there are worse. If you do it, expect to be without the car for a while, take your time and work logically. Most of the time taken is getting other stuff out the way, getting access, so take pictures as you go so you know how everything fits, comes apart etc.
Unless you have a good range of tools, nuts, bolts, tie wraps etc then you will almost certainly need odd bits as you re assemble, so expect for that to happen while car less. Make plans for such and you will be able to do it.
Not the 1st clutch job I would suggest for anybody though.
The only problem you may come across is undoing the big nuts that hold the drive-shafts into the hubs as they are a big nut and extremely tight, they must be tightened back up to the correct torque although I used a big 3/4inch breaker bar with a long pipe over it for leverage and gave them everything I had in me and have had no problem with the new wheel bearings I'd fitted 4 thousand miles ago
Thanks for all the advice I'm OK with tools iv got quite a good selection, and as a added bonus my next door neighbor was a machine and still has all his tools Eg engine support and that and said he would advise me if needed, he is a very nice person, I don't like asking him stuff as he has C
even though he loves getting involved he's just not got it in him any more
