Hyundai i10 - Overheating warning
Discussion
Some help if possible....
Parent's I10 - 2011, ~65k miles has started showing a red coolant warning
Strangely I took a look at the car yesterday - came on (from cold) within 1/2 mile and would always go off if you turned a corner but re-appear shortly afterward. Not looked to have lost any water and the oil cap is clear - due a service soon though looking at the colour.
Have done a little googling and can't see a likely cause - have instructed them to not drive it until I can get somebody to look at it - what do we think is the likely cause? - initial thoughts are a sensor/waterpump but wouldn't have thought it'd get hot enough within 1/2 mile?

If you checked the coolant level, it can't be a true low coolant level fault. If it comes and goes within a few seconds it can't be a true overheating fault.
Given the behaviour you describe I'd be looking for a wiring/connection fault. I'd look at the connector to the low coolant sensor or temp sensor first, and then look for loom mechanical damage or heat damage. A wriggle test is a good way to locate intermittent problems like this.
