My squib was broke so have replaced it with one sourced from a scrap yard, now the steering is loose. Is it that the squib is faulty or might not be connected properly?

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't think that the squib has anything to do with the steering being loose.

Is it loose when you turn the wheel side to side? By how much? You could try fitting the old one back in and seeing if it feels the same.

What car is it and how did you know the squib was broken/faulty?

A squib is a small explosive or pyrotechnic. In a car it is the explosive element of an airbag.
In this case I am not sure the OP actually means the squib.

Also known as a clock spring or slip ring, connects all the fixed electrics of the steering column to the rotating electrics of the steering wheel.

Try a Google 'Peugeot steering wheel squib' (or pretty much any car make followed by 'steering wheel squib')

Op what have you replaced, the clock spring (the bit you need to remove the steering wheel to replace) or the airbag unit (the bit in the centre of the steering wheel)?

I do question how serious this post is though.
