Can you please offer some advice as my Morgan lights won't turn off (front & back) at all, regardless with what I do with the headlight switch unless I disconnect the battery. I have tried using the cut out switch, leaving off for 5 mins & then back on to see if that resets anything, but no joy.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Maybe a replacement headlight switch?

Are they powered through a relay? Maybe that has failed closed. Otherwise, to diagnose it you need to understand the electrical circuit and work out which part is supposed to be breaking the circuit and isn't.

Thanks for the replies so far. I've tried disconning each of the five relays, one at a time, headlights still stay on. However, all works correctly once ignition is switched on, including correct operation of headlights. They only stay once once ignition is switched off, unless battery is disconnected. I'm now thinking faulty ignition switch. Any thoughts?

In reading your OP I took it to be Side/Tail Lights staying on, now you mention headlights staying on

Has the car got a Dim Dip control unit fitted? These units do play up and keep the lights on

No way is the fault in the ignition switch

Hi

Its rear, side & headlights that stay on. Bizarrely, I notices today that the lights do go off about 2 minutes after turning the ignition off, but the car does not have 'follow me home' lights fitted- seems like an odd fault

Does it have anything else with any sort of run-on feature - cooling fan, turbo cooler, anything like that?

Dim Dip Control Unit if fitted could be faulty and causing this

Penelope Stopit, by dim/dip control unit, do you mean an auto dipping control unit, if so I don't have that auto dip feature. I just have normal stalk controlled dim/dip

Dim Dip is a circuit that ensures a car can't be driven with only the sidelights on, if fitted with a Dim Dip Control Unit a car can be parked with side/tail lights on. Once the ignition is switched on (as in when the car is being driven), if the driver switches the side/tail lights on (1st position of side/head switch, NOT HEADLIGHTS) the Dim Dip Control Unit will supply a lower than normal voltage to the dipped beam filaments of the headlight bulbs, the bulbs will illuminate at something like 50 to 75% brightness which is a "Dim Dip Beam" and much better than sidelights on their own (Dim Dip is to be seen, not to see)

A Dim Dip Control often has a resistor built into it and the wiring to it includes -

Sidelights supply from side/head switch
Ignition supply
Battery supply
Dip Beam/Beams from Dipped Beam fuses
Earth

They often fail and keep an ignition supply or resistor supply on the Dipped Beam circuit

The thing is.....Has your Morgan got a Dim Dip Control Unit??????

Dim Dip can be wired into the headlights by using a different method.......Relays can be used to put the 2 dipped beam filaments in series with one another and this gives half brightness dipped beams.....Dim Dip

Penelope Stopit, thank you for taking the time to write your detailed reply, its very kind of you. I'm not sure at all that I have a dim/dip fitted and so I'll take a look tomorrow - if I have then I'll follow up on your siggestions as to a potential cause. Thanks

Glad to be of help
It is an easy enough job to remove the Dim Dip circuit if there is one and the control unit is faulty, sometimes it's a case of simply disconnecting the unit, other times there is some simple linking out to be done, it all depends on the type of unit fitted

Post back here If there is no unit fitted and you're struggling
