I had to top up the power steering fluid on my old shed Focus the other day. Went to a Ford dealer and they gave me some fluid which states spec M2C938-A on the bottle. I was assured this is the right stuff. They basically had red and green, and my car needs red, apparently.

I had a look around today and have noticed that it should be to spec M2C195-A. Some websites state M2C938-A is a replacement for M2C195-A. However, just looked at a video on Youtube on how to change the fluid (as mine is really old and filthy) and it states the above is not a replacement for M2C195-A.

Bugger.

Does anyone know if the fluid I've been given is correct? I've only popped a little bit in the reservoir to top it up, so am hoping it won't do any damage.

According to FordEtis:

Power steering fluid, vehicles with red steering fluid WSS-M2C938-A

Hydraulic fluid, vehicles with green steering fluid WSS-M2C204-A (for reference).

Only the 2 basic types for most Fords.

What is very important though, is not to mix them.

But if anybody knows what your car needs, it is the Ford dealer.
