Hello I am enquiring on behalf of my father in law, he has a 09 reg freelander 2.2td with around 180,000 miles on clock. It's engine management light is on, it's just had major service and clutch etc. Fuel pump and and Cam belt done at 155k . He does around 40k a year. Any suggestion?
I know it could be fuel pump or filters etc no limp mode though which to me would indicate a sensor possibly or emissions. I know a bit about cars etc but just a bit stuck as looked at the usual problems and can't seem to get it off.
Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Take it to garage and plug it in for fault codes to be checked.

No point trying to guess as it could be anything.

or buy a cheapo code reader from ebay/Amazon and you can read the codes and reset the light yourself.

Yep get something like this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Engine-Management-Diagnos...

Then the app "car scanner" that will allow you to read the codes. Oh and have a pair of pliers handy, as they are small and slippy....can be hard to pull out in tight spaces.

Don't guess.
Get the codes read using a diagnostic tool specific to the Freelander.
