Daewoo Matiz Rough Running where to start?!
Discussion
Hello all,
And before I begin, long time lurker but finally joined.
So My current run around is a £250 Daewoo Matiz 1L 5 Door SE+ in god awful peuce green....more importantly £250 with an MOT (seriously dont know how though)
but anyway this is while my polo is off the road.
so when i got this peuce green matiz it was pulling hard to the left, spongy brakes and wouldnt idle and wouldnt accelerate and was so loud it was comical, so i drove it home (very short drive) and set about a few repairs. so far ive fixed the idling and running as they were split air/vacuum hoses. ive replaced the track rod end and solved the pulling.
Now im just left with spongy brakes and a wierd hesitation - basicly if push the accel to fast it kind of hiccups before actually revving, im not expecting any performance out of this but itd be nice if it actually ran!
my question is:
Where do i start looking next to remedy the hesitation?
and would bleeding brakes and replacing fluid be a good starting point with the soft pedal - if i hold the pedal down it doesnt fall it is steady, just while driving brakes feel kind of mushy.
thanks all and i hope ive not been to much of a n00b on my first post!

I have a Matiz, albeit the 800cc three cylinder one, and it had a misfire which I eventally traced to a plug lead which had partially pulled out of the rubber boot on one end (can't remember which end). It was fine in normal running, but under load (acceleration, hills etc.) the spark couldn't jump the extra gap, hence the misfire.
Its also worth checking for a spark plug with too big a gap or a cracked/dirty insulator.
Regarding the brakes, service the mechanically to make sure that everything that should move can (self adjusters, pistons, pads sliding on calipers, slider pins), then bleed them all as per the manufacturer's recommendation; normally furthest to nearest to the master cylinder.

Were the plugs you replaced quite black?
Mk3 Fiestas had a problem with the engine coolant temperature sensor which would make the computer think the engine was colder than it was and richen the mixture. Adding a resistor across it would make it think the engine was warmer and lean the mixture out. It took mine from an MOT fail with high hydrocarbons (HC) to a zero reading on HC, not to mention much improved starting, running and MPG.
