Buckled wheel, cause of rumble?
Discussion
Hi,
I still have an ongoing issue. I can hear a rumble/rough noise when I reach 89-90mph +I can hear it from the drivers seat, but not from the passenger/middle of the car. There is no noise before this, and rhyme doesn’t change. I assume it’s the wheel, as the wheel has a 100g strip of wheel weight. The Tyree has been changed, the previous tyre had 115g, the wheel has a slight kick to it when on the balancing machine.
P
I guess an out of round wheel can cause the noise I am hearing, the car has just had a 4 wheel alignment done also. The car in question is a 2017 E Class , 51k on the clock with the 20” AMG wheels, with run flat Goodyear.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

If the wheel is "out of true" you have just wasted the money on the alignment as depending where they put the jig on that wheel will change the readings.
Also, just because they have managed to balance it doesn't mean that is the problem over. It will be causing excessive tyre wear & likely suspension/bearing wear also.
If you know the wheel is out get another and that is one less thing that could cause the issue, simples!

Get it balanced again. Ask to watch and explain why. You'll soon see if it's out of true.
It’s be done twice, the guys always let me watch, I can see there’s a slight kick, in the wheel on machine, not a proper buckle. Still that wheel uses a mass of weight weight, all in an area 6-8inch strip, which is roughly 100g. The tyre before had worn on the inner edge in. 3 places, like the wheel has been hopping, usually they wear the whole circumference of the tyre. Thanks

The buckle/kick in the wheel is on the inner part of the wheel, I took the car back the next day after the alignment to get them to check all was in spec still, which it all was as I explained my issue to them, my dads friend runs the garage so wasn’t to much hassle. If you know the wheel is out get another and that is one less thing that could cause the issue, simples!
A new wheel replacement is £780. So I want to be sure!
Thanks
