Engine Noise - Ford TDCI
Discussion
I've a 2014 Ford Galaxy 2.0 tdci 163. It has what sounds like a bearing rumble from the belt side of the engine. The car was in at ford today who couldn't find anything wrong. When I went to collect it I spoke to the head tech who listened to the car with me. He explained they had the alternator belt off but couldn't fault the car. The noise was still there and with a stethoscope appears to be coming from the top of the cambelt cover/head. It's to go back for them to take the cover off and see what what. Any ideas what may be causing the noise??
Found this video on the web. The sound/noise is identical on my car.

Normal or not??

Asking the internet to diagnose funny noises is pretty futile, especially when you've already had a tech listen to it and have already booked it in for further diagnosis. What's the point in us guessing? What are you planning to do with those guesses?
He's doing what I did last year, having exhausted the abilities of the main dealer. It worked for me. When I asked on the forums, I got several suggestions, and one of them was bang on. People on the internet don't just service mainly new stuff as at the dealers, they have to think outside the box to cure problems on older vehicles the dealers don't see often when the warranty's up. Hence why asking on here is worth risking the occasional unpleasant response.I changed a rattling tensioner on my Ford Duratec engine myself and I found internet forums were very helpful at the time, these pulleys on the auxiliary belt were what they checked to be ok with thier stethoscope.
There is also a tensioner on the cambelt on your engine which is covered over. The cambelt is recommended to be replaced I think every 125K miles. It is a harder task complete at home wiith engine timing being critical, but not impossible.
