My Toyota is throwing a P0500 code for speed sensor fault.

There's a pretty good chance that the gearbox speed/VSS sensor is on it's way out.

A new OEM one is £122 from Toyota and is easily avilable, but there are also a range of cheap aftermarket versions... A Hella branded one for example is £40.

When it comes to sensors, better to stick with OEM? Or take a chance on a much cheaper off-brand version? If so, any "good" brands of sensor to go for?

thx!

I have no experience of this one specifically but in general terms I would like to think that a "known good brand" name would know what they are doing.

More often than not the 'OEM' is just a rebadged version of the same cheaper part you can get.

Buy the cheap one. Fit it. If it doesn't work take it off and return it for a refund. If it works you have saved some cash.

I’d trust a brand like Hella. If it was some brand you never heard of then I’d say OEM but Hella are well known for making good stuff.
