I need a better air comressor than my old 50L 'Wolf Air' eBay purchase some years ago. Something with enough power so I can use air tools with ease and maybe some spraying. Something quieter than my old rig.

Am I right in assuming 'belt driven' are quieter than direct drive?

Could I do a lot worse than this offering from Machine Mart: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-boxer-14100...

Any other recommendations welcome.

Cheers
Cad

Buy another cheap one and plumb them both together.

I did that and I've got pretty much all the air I need. I added a few non-return valves so I could run just one at a time if I'm inflating tyres or doing something small etc. I have them both feeding a single regulator/oiler/water trap.

It will of course only add to the noise issue though. biggrin

The Clarke compressor is 94dB, which isn't exactly quiet & possibly louder than the Wolf. Noise level is pretty tightly tied up to power level (belt or direct), so generally increasing the power will also up the noise level.....

I replaced a direct drive oil-free SIP with a direct drive but oil filled Metabo. The metabo is loads quieter, though at least some of the noise reduction comes from having an inlet air filter fitted.

What do you want to do with it?

I have basically that exact model just 20yo and blue and works well for my needs but you can't make an omelet with apples or pears.

I've got belt driven and direct drive. The belt driven is a hell of a lot quieter. Direct drive you can hear miles away. Shut the shed door and the belt driven volume level is nice and quiet, can barely be heard in comparison to direct drive. Try sgs engineering and gt air as well for a compressor. Normally have a decent selection.
