My 'Michelin' tyre footpump from Halfords has seized up after very little use (evidently cheap rubbish from China with a Michelin badge on it) so I'd like to upgrade to a mains powered one.

But almost every powered tyre pump is 12V. Does a decent mains powered tyre pump exist?

I've never seen one. To be honest I think the whole point is that you can power them from the car and 240v won't necessarily be better quality.

My old Halfords 12v one has been trouble free for years. I'd say you just need to buy a decent one. Any chance of a refund on the Michelin?

Surely a small compressor would do the trick?

Get a track pump.

Even a small compressor/tank that Lidl/Aldi occasionally sell would be overkill as you would need to run it before you can pump air.

Surely you need to revert back to basics? A double barrel foot pump. ECP do an RAC one that ends up at around £7-8 after their DFS discounts. It's virtually the same as the £30 Michelin foot pumps. Or some on here like the Kismet ones.

I had the same quest but didn't find one. You would think someone would have spotted the lacuna.

I tend to use my compressor these days but yeah you have to run it to 'charge up' and it's bloody noisy but miles better than a weedy 12v thing.

Of the 12v ones I've used the best one had been the one that came with my Alfa, similar to this: http://ebay.co.uk/itm/382628507379

The definition of overkill for tyre inflation lol It's a V-twin (sort of!)

A fully charged tank will last ages if you're just topping up, so no need to drag the power cable outside with it.

For mobile use I have a cheap 12V pump from EuroCarParts - don't care about accuracy or speed with that - it's an emergency only tool and I always use a decent quality tyre pressure gauge to drop pressures to the correct level once I've got enough air in.

I have just bought a De Walt tyre inflator , runs off the 18v drill batteries and seems to work a treat, much more convenient that my ring small mains one.

Mind i think I would have tried the 30 quid one from aldi if I had seen that first.

Ring do one but I use my own gauge anyway to fine adjust pressure down after I’ve over inflated

Thanks all for the flurry of replies! The duff Michelin one is 2-3 years old so out of warranty.

Thanks; I'd seen Ring products but had hoped to find something a bit cheaper. There's this one but it takes 4 mins to do what the rng one does in 2: https://tinyurl.com/y24h5xpx

The reason for wanting mains is that I check the tyres outside my garage. The garage will be open (because I've just taken the tyre pump out) and has 13A sockets right by the door. The car is probably locked and I don't want to risk running the battery down, nor start the engine when there's limitless electricity only six feet away. 12V fag socket stuff just seems so Mickey Mouse, the sort of thing you'd get for a Christmas present. A cordless pump will just give me batteries to charge and go flat.

Seems you have to spend £80 to get a decent one. Hmm, the jury is out! Maybe there's a really good foot pump which will last more than 2 years?

What you're looking for is probably something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/230-V-SUITCASE-AIR-COMPRE...

I bought a similar sort of thing from Aldi 7 or 8 years ago, it's a lot faster than the 12V ones but saves dragging out the "proper" compressor just for inflating tyres.

Thanks - on the same page was this one: https://tinyurl.com/yxgktumw - though it seem impossible to compare inflation times.

I know it's not what you asked for but
I got a ring cordless one (rct 6000),

wasn't cheap but it's been bloody brilliant
I've had it about 8 months, used it loads of times and it's only been charged once (when I got it) and still showing several bars
