Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place for this post so bear with. I'm looking to buy some wheels from a private seller on eBay. More specifically, these;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143417062892?ul_noapp=t...

These are Enkei RP01's and seem genuine enough. Buyer states they are very old and you can see from the pictures they need massive refurb. Are these two far gone?

I'm told they are straight, no welds, buckles or dents and hold air. is the alloy itself capable of corroding after this amount of time and subject to being unsafe?

just need to know what other questions I should be asking. it's a 2 hour round trip so want inspecting in person to just be a formality and a saving on delivery costs.

Any help or reference to posts of a similar nature already on here let me know

Thanks

I ave no idea if those are rare wheels or anything but I would say £200 seems a lot of money for such a scrappy set of wheels.

I have 3 sets of wheels (2 x 162 & 1 x 17") for my track car, all bought off ebay for under £100/set with good tyres.

Just in case you do get them there is a place in Bradford that refurbs wheels for £1/" so £64 for a set of 16" wheels. PM me if you want the details.

+ refurb decent per wheel at least 50 quid. Better to wait for decent ones.

They were on ebay a week or so ago for £200 buy it now with 30watchers. I expect most were deciding if it was worth spending £200+ for them to be restored. Those Enkeis are in my opinion the second tier of desirable models behind for example the RPF01 but are still somewhat better quality/design than the majority of £200 alloy wheels!

A freshly refurbished set are likely to be worth around £500 as they are popular on a number of 80s/90s Jap & Euro cars. You could strip them back and slap some silver paint on for £50 of paint/materials in order to make them a bit more presentable.

Thanks. I'm keen to restore these myself. Even if it costs me £100 in materials and my time thats ok with me. I've seen a refurbished set on eBay at the same time in white and yes, they were on at 450.

They do look rough ill agree that but I'd take this as a project more than me wanting them professionally powder coating or anything. They will be 50-60 a wheel.

I think if i can get them down a bit further maybe... Just want to make sure im not missing anything obvious

Without tyres fitted and balanced you won't really know if they are good in reality, so as long as you have priced that in.

They'll refurbish, it just depends on how much work you want to put in. I don't think you'll want to do the prep as they need baking and blasting.

Yes the more I look at them the more I realise these are beyond sone 80 grit and some rattle cans. its £400 before i even get to tyres isn't it.

Thanks. I appreciate the voices of reason.

Think these are magnesium so refurbing isn’t as straight forward. Had a set on my old MR2 turbo and wanted to redo them properly. Looking around £100 per rim and that was 15 years ago.

Check down all the bolt holes to make sure they don't have damage from locking wheel nuts being drilled off. Don't ask me how I know about that one.

yeh, thanks. i could be faffing with these for ages then. and then only having to have them done properly. If it's that much to refurb I'd be better off buying new, almost.

eBay is where you sell stuff that you wouldn't sell to your mates.
