Last week (no how idea how I did it) I managed to put half a tank of diesel into my almost empty Alfa Mito (non turbo). I drove it for about a mile or so before I realised what Id done as the car was juddering.
I called someone out and had the tank drained and flushed (they used a can of something in the tank) It ran after but quite juddery for about 50 miles and then was ok after I filled the tank. now after a week it is very juddery again, losing power and then gaining. It isn't making any weird noised but definitely runs like a pig and the engine light has come on.
Is it possible I've caused some lasting damage, or could it need a fuel filter and spark plug change?

My mum did the same to her 1.4 TB Mito. It kept coming up with the misfire warning so in the end the spark plugs were replaced and it's been fine since.

Have you tried filling the tank with petrol again since the problem? Maybe there's still some diesel in there and you can dilute it.

If it was mine, I'd be tempted to try some injector cleaner additive, but then again I've not tried it myself and it could be snake oil.

If it were mine I would fully drain the tank & fill it with "posh petrol" whatever is your local brand of 97+ octane & see how it is after a tank or 2.

try disconnecting the battery or clear faults, for a few hours, the car might be running in poor fuel mode.

It's petrol in a diesel that's a killer.

Diesel in a petrol is just an embarassment. Maybe filter. Maybe plugs but a squirt of brake cleaner will dust them off.

Has the car had a decent run since it happened?
