Briefly,
A7 3.0 TDi 246 2014 40k
Once the car is up to temperature a relay above my right knee starts to click.Very fast !
It only does it when driving slowly. It will not do it at a standstill. I can't hear it at speed.
No buttons I touch in the car stops it from happening so I'm guessing its not a flap/motor in the heating ducts.
What does stop it, is if I just touch the brake pedal enough to put the brake lights on.
The brake light relay is behind the Glove Compartment so I know its not that relay. I can hear that working as it should.
Would I be correct in thinking this may be caused by a small vacuum leak in the braking system?
A vacuum valve perhaps being operated by this relay?
Has anyone had this problem before ?
Thanks for reading.

Appreciate you've very likely thought about finding the relay and removing it to see what doesn't work, if you haven't it may save some time and head scratching

You could post here what wiring colours are at the problem relay, might help someone help you

I'm worried about removing the Relay as I think I will loose all vacuum. I'm certain its to switch the Vacuum pump to the 'Servo' on/off. I think I will get limp mode and a code.
Can a Relay just pack in and 'Chatter' ?
I'm holding off until I can get a smoke test done to look for a possible vacuum leak.
It could be the one way valve itself ?
Thanks for your reply.

Yes it's possible for a relay to chatter if the operating coil is constantly making and breaking but extremely doubtful

Once a relay coil is failing it wouldn't keep failing in the same manner, it would sometimes not work, sometimes work and sometimes chatter until completely failing

Really does seem to be whatever is switching the relay is causing the fault but anything's possible

Thank you. I should have time to look closer before the Weekend.
I'll post back with the results.

I thought I knew a bit about cars.
Apparently not.
The electrical noise was still there with the car coasting and the ignition off !
Not a Relay then.
Turns out it was a Mintex brake pad moving about on a carrier !
Google Mintex pads being noisy and a poor fit !
I swapped out Paggit pads for Mintex because the former were too dusty.
Big learn for me.
Dont get tunnel vision on a car fault !
I was so sure it was a Relay as well lol
Car is now silently running back on the original Padgett Pads.
