ford focus diesel losing power
Discussion
2010 focus 2.0 diesel
Lost a bit of power, and using more fuel both when driving and when idling (used to be 0.1-0.2 galls/hr, now it's 0.3 galls/hr, normal motorway consumption worse too). Brakes ok, tyre pressures ok - what are the possible causes - anything easy to check? Where should I look first: fuel filter,....anything else. What can I rule out from these symptoms?

When did it last have fuel and air filters?
My 2007 2.0 diesel Focus runs better with the EGR blanked, though it throws up a warning light.
Mine is pre DPF, but that’s also a possible culprit in your case.
Fuel filter is very often neglected, as they can be a pain to get started again if you don’t prime the system.
In order of ease/expense I would blank the EGR, then do the air filter, then the fuel filter.
After that it’s DPF then a closer look at fuelling.

Could it be trying to do a regen ?
Same symtems.
Usually too much door to door use.
Give it a good blast on the Motorway using high revs.
If that fails get the codes read.
It will be cheaper in the long-term.
However my 3.0 TDI suffers with mpg when the temperature goes down. 43 instead of 47 on a run.
