Ford Mondeo 1995 1.8L

Car failed its mot on the exhaust lambda 2nd idle. A clue might be that the engine starts to stutter soon after driving and only in traffic, otherwise it seems to run okay. Any ideas? Not sure if this makes any difference to the mot test but i noticed after the test that the guy at the center had the car engine down as a duratec 2000 although I'm sure it's a zetec

engine oil temp - min 80 deg c - gauge showed warm
fast idle test
Lamda 2.20 -fail

second idle test
Lamda 1.75 -fail

The lambda reading suggests you've got a misfire and/or an intake air leak. The stuttering suggests you've got a misfire. You need somebody competent to track down the cause, and fix it. Has it been serviced recently? If not, it might be as simple as dirty plugs or failing plug leads.
