Morning All,

Better halfs fiat 500 has got a problem with the boot, the handle on the boot doesn't work but if you use the button on the remote it opens first time.

Took the boot apart last night to see if it was just the handle not engaging the switch but it definitely is. I was just going to buy a new handle off ebay but when you go to close the boot it doesn't lock first time it takes 4+ goes before it engages the lock even though you can hear it doing something every time, would the two be interconnected or likely to be something other than the switch which is affecting both?

Tried google but cannot seem to see anything on the two problems at the same time

Thanks

Louis

Does the handle open the boot via a solenoid, and if so can you hear the solenoid trying to work?

The fact it won't latch close suggests there may be an adjustment problem either of the latch itself, or the switch that detects whether it is latched.

Check the wiring where it comes through the roof lining into the tailgate. Common fault on many FCA cars and repair kits are available for not much £

It's a common fault on the 500, had it replaced on my wife's several years ago under warranty. If it's still under warranty contact the dealer.

definitely check wiring between hatch and car (top LHS). sounds exactly like problem i fixed with one of the kits mentioned. look at ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-500-Tailgate-Boot-...

and you will get idea. there are some youtube vids and i did it but 2-3 hours minimum or buy kit & pay an auto electrician to fit
good luck
