Had one if these a while now, although for the full 20 year's I was in the motor trade I never had one, when I moved to work on the railways, the company was approached by Halfords to enquire if some of the techs would like one .... yea OK then.
Used it quite a bit to get discounts, bulbs and wiper blades usually get quite a bit knocked off the listed price, and I think I had a good result on a tool cabinet.
But today I wanted to buy some ratchet axle stands, to add a bit of extra peace of mind when I use my quickjack ramps, listed price £30, so not too much, hand my card over at the till, and was asked to pay £15 .. yup 50% off.

So what's your best trade card purchase?

I believe it is on bulbs. I think some can be 25% of the original price.

Never heard of it til now but I've just signed up.
However it appears I need photo id at the store to complete the application.I don't have any.
Let's see how strict they are

Used to avoid Halfords like the plague until I got a card. With a card the prices aren’t an insult compared to ECP and the like.

When I got a card it came with a one time use only additional 30% off voucher. My first 'basket' came to over £800, went under £500 with the discount card and then came down to under £350 with the voucher.

You don't have a drivers license?

I still have the original paper license, so that wouldn't be of use to me either.

Not all are photo ID.

Some of the older crowd hand onto their paper license like a dog with a bone

Heck, sounds like I've put something off a bit too long again. I don't have photo id either, and have been meaning to try to sort one of these out, to save me having to borrow one from a mate.

Best buy was a new battery, £52 down to £36 with the card.

One of the biggest savings is on wiper blades.. often go from £17 odd down to £4 or £5 with my trade card. Batteries save a good chunk too.

used to be batteries and wiper blades but its still cheaper to buy stuff like that from a local motor factor than Halfords (if you get a trade discount), although the fact Halfords are open 7 days is sometimes very very handy. A lot of stuff is still retails price when using a trade card ie expensive.

Igor issued a paper part to go along with my photo card
Trouble was it was issued 2 days before they were scrapped 😂

If you setup an account on their website you can link it to your trade card, useful for comparing prices before you get to the checkout.

I got a Halfords trade card ages ago by joining a Vauxhall owner’s club for a year. Best tenner I ever spent. That arrangement stopped about 10 years ago but card still works just fine.

Just had a look into this on their website to see if there's a way I could get a card and came across this:

What trades are eligible for a Halfords Trade Card?
The following trades are applicable for a Halfords Trade Card:

Qualified mechanic
Self-employed mechanic
Mobile mechanic
Small independent garage mechanic
Fast Fit Centre mechanic
Commercial vehicle mechanic
Police, fire or ambulance mechanic
Bus mechanic
Local authority mechanic
Recovery mechanic

Army mechanic
RAF or aviation engineer
Naval engineer
Marine engineer/mechanic

Plumber
Glazier

I thought it would limited to proper mechanics and not wood butchers like me

I was an MOT tester at a Halfords store when these cards were first introduced. Still use it and its around 20 years old. Think the magnetic strip is bad and the colour has faded to a very pale yellow which the staff always comment on. Only use it on average once or twice a month now.

Looks like the discount may be reasonable, unlike the Screwfix trade discount where I get about 5p trade discount on 1 in 10 items, so most of the time absolutely nothing.
